Let it all hang out

I've had a few comments on my youtube videos saying I have 'perfect skin'. I just thought I'd show you my 'almost bare' face so you can see that I do not. When I'm not filming videos or going anywhere fancy I tend to wear very minimal skin makeup. I find it kind of liberating being able to go barefaced and simply not care, plus I have breakout prone skin, so less makeup means less spots. As you can see I let my freckles, moles and scarring show through. This is the kind of makeup I like to wear to work, since it takes minimal amount of time and only uses one brush, but with the eyeliner and mascara it looks like I've made a bit of an effort. I'm wearing a VERY light layer of my Chanel Aqua Lumiere Foundation and I skipped concealer (Lazy). I finished off my skin by apply a tiny amount of blush and powder (Peach melba blush by natural collection and my rimmel stay matte powder) On my eyes I smudged on a bit of Indianwood paint pot with my fingers then applied my Maybelline gel liner in the water line. I finished the makeup with my L'oreal voluminous mascara, lip balm and a touch of powder through my brows.

Review: Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation

My current dupe for my Chanel Vita Lumiere Aqua is the Rimmel Wake Me Up Make Up Foundation which retails for £8.99. Although I love my Chanel, it's a little expensive to wear just for work, or to pop to Tesco so I wanted to find something that does the job, without the price tag.

Nothing can replace my Vita Lumiere Aqua but this is a close second. It smells great, stays well on the skin and it doesn't feel too heavy. It doesn't blend quite as easily as my Chanel does, and isn't quite as light but it's definitely a nice high street foundation.

It gives a dewy finish and very occasionally has some flecks of shimmer through it. I rarely notice this but if you hate shimmer then maybe stay away. All thats left to say is, I like the packaging, it reminds me of summer.

NOTE: Since writing this review I've stopped using this foundation. It turned out to be the cause of horrendous breakouts. This foundation obviously is much cheaper than my regular one and is heavily fragranced. A lot of high street foundations break my skin out, my skin is very sensitive. If you have acne prone or sensitive skin I wouldn't recommend this foundation, however if you don't have a problem with foundations breaking you out then I'd still recommend it. It's not right for me and I won't be repurchasing, but it's still a nice foundation.

Holy Grail Product: Chanel Illuminating Fluid

I cringe at the thought of how I used to apply my makeup. I'd pile on the heavy revlon colourstay foundation, slab on the full coverage concealer and top it off with a liberal application of pressed powder.

As my skin had improved and as my taste has become somewhat more sophisticated, the way I do my makeup has also changed. I now opt for a lighter, dewier base. Yes, even though I have combination skin, I like a bit of a glow. My foundation of choice is the Chanel Vita Lumiere Aqua. This brings me on to profess my love of liquid highlighters. Anything to make my face look bright and fresh, essential for those who don't sleep well like me.

Back in December '11 my mother bought me a couple of Chanel makeup items for Christmas. I has asked for the Soleil tan do Chanel Gel Bronzer, and what I actually received was the Soleil tan de Chanel Sheer Illuminating Fluid in Sunkissed. I have never been so happy to get the wrong thing in my life. I love this product, I've literally used it every single makeup wearing day since Christmas. I still have about half left, so my guess is, it lasts about 8 months with regular use.

It gives the perfect glowy bronze sheen to the skin and I can't wait for this to become a summer staple in my makeup bag. It's light, non-greasy and lasts for a good 10 hours. It has a slight tint to it but nothing too strong, and the finish is a soft sheen and not too glittery. GLITTER IS FOR CHRISTMAS CARDS, I HATE GLITTER ON MY SKIN!

I love everything about this product. Yes it's Chanel so it's pricy but it lasts such a long time, it actually works out very reasonably priced. Obviously I didn't buy this myself but I will be repurchasing the moment it gets low. You get 30ml in a jar and it retails for around £30. Which works out at £1 per ml compared to £1.42 per ml for Benefit High Beam.

What's new with you?

I went to my friends 31st Birthday on Saturday. Had a great time, all the girls from work came out and this is what I wore. I went for simple smudged black liner with individual lashes and messy backcombed hair. My outfit is all from New Look and its all pretty new.

I bought Glamour today. I have bought a magazine in ages! Not since my Elle Subscription ran out in December. In this month's issue (April 2012) you get a free full size Shampoo, Conditioner, Treatment or Styling Cream. Worth a look?

I've got so much work on at the moment. I'm a little stressed, but it's all worth it right? I'm so glad I chose to do a degree with the Open University. Thank you to everyone who recommended it to me. Best decision I've ever made!

Also three good things:

  • I tried on Size 10 jeans in New Look and they are slightly loose.
  • I've bought a new point and shoot camera to film videos for my Youtube Channel. I might also start doing vlogs if you guys want to see that?
  • My friends booked me to do another friends wedding makeup next year. Hopefully I'll get a chance to do more event makeup, its basically getting paid to do my hobby.
Hope you are all well,

Onna

P.S Don't worry the picture of my Open University work is only a photo of the set question and my books, not my answer :)

Work, Wardrobes and weirdness

This picture looks a bit weird to me, but I didn’t have time to faff about! My makeup is minimal as usual – loving my Maybelline Black Gel Liner atm!

Wanted to do an OOTD post today but this is what they made me wear to work! New Look can be such a fail sometimes!

Ombering my hair has totally wreaked it! Needs a cut and colour pronto but not sure what to do next? Any more bleach and my hair might fall off! Got an appointment booked for early November... Ideas anyone?

I love my wardrobe! I think it’s the thing I’ll miss the most when I finally move out of my parents house… somehow I doubt my budget will stretch to having a handbag wall :S Still saving and job searching...

Anyway hope you are all well!

Love,
Onna

VOGUE Fashion's Night Out 2011

So next week is Vogue Fashion's Night Out... I first heard about the event, or shopping experience on twitter last year but was too busy to go and London is so far away for a little country girl like myself :) Literally by coincidence, this year I shall be in London all weekend to visit a friend so I have decided to go up a day early to see what all the fuss is about. Now, if like myself earlier self, are not quite sure what these frivolities include I shall explain...

Think of VFNO as a late night shopping experience, combined with celebrities, models, champagne and cocktails, nibbles, competitions and goody bags. The best part is, because you are essentially there to make the stores money, entry is free and does not require a ticket (bar a few exceptions like some PR parties.

I would seriously recommend coming along to take in the great atmosphere, find some bargains (most shops are offering around 20% discount on the night)and meet to lovely people, including lots of gorgeous beauty and fashion bloggers! It takes place on Thursday 9th September in and around Soho, mainly of Oxford and Regents street I think.

I shall provide links for all the information you require and I hope to see some of your there. If you have an iPhone I recommend downloading the VFNO App to help find your way around. If you do intend to go please let me know so I can say hello! I shall be tweeting prior to, and throughout the evening to let you know where I am heading. I shall also vlog and blog the event for anyone who is curious, now I just need to decide what to wear...

Sarah's Guide to VFNO

P.S Apologies for the website pictures, I'm recovering from having my wisdom teeth removed and I'm not feeling up to getting the camera out, sorry!

Witch Life Balance Event

I went to the Witch 'Life Balance' Event last Saturday and it was so much fun. It took place right in the centre of London, a little far away from my house, so I treked up to Abby's flat in Plymouth the night before. After a 6am start we hopped onto a rather busy train. Somehow, we not only made it into London on time, but found our way through the Underground. We met Steph and Emma and headed to the 1000Heads HQ. Phew! Who knew I had some sort of inbuilt sat nav :P

Champagne on arrival was much appriciated & I think name nags should be required at all blog events, I am rubbish with names and I was worried I would call people by their URL's! Thank god for those!

It was so lovely to meet all the bloggers and everyone at Witch were so generous! There was more food in one room than I eat in a year and so many fun activities, some naughty some nice :) I particularly enjoyed getting my nails and makeup done, and having a one-on-one chat with the Witch Makeup Artist. She gave me some great application tips to help my makeup stay in place! For links to all the bloggers who attended click here and scroll down to "Blogger Photos". Thank you Witch for running this event, to see all the official pictures click here...

Me and Steph, who is sporting a rather sexy hat, after some lovely Burlesque Dancing.

Lucy & myself attempting a bit of Burlesque dancing, not embarassing at all!

Abby... drinking :P

A polaroid picture of Abby, Steph and Myself taken by Holly at the event - I sneakily stole this from Steph's blog so all credit to her :)

Thanks again Witch... I shalll review a couple of my favourite products soon!

A Little bit of Abby...

After my failure at making my Uni interview *fingers crossed I can re-arrange* I had a spontaneous trip to Abby's house. We went out... and I think the pictures speak a thousand words.

Good times... Happy Weekend!!

I promise I've got a few 'Proper' Blog posts planned, not just drunk pictures :) Also re-decorating my room this week so if that ever gets done *rolls eyes* I shall blog about it :)

Love,
