Review: Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation

My current dupe for my Chanel Vita Lumiere Aqua is the Rimmel Wake Me Up Make Up Foundation which retails for £8.99. Although I love my Chanel, it's a little expensive to wear just for work, or to pop to Tesco so I wanted to find something that does the job, without the price tag. 


Nothing can replace my Vita Lumiere Aqua but this is a close second. It smells great, stays well on the skin and it doesn't feel too heavy. It doesn't blend quite as easily as my Chanel does, and isn't quite as light but it's definitely a nice high street foundation. 


It gives a dewy finish and very occasionally has some flecks of shimmer through it. I rarely notice this but if you hate shimmer then maybe stay away. All thats left to say is, I like the packaging, it reminds me of summer. 


NOTE: Since writing this review I've stopped using this foundation. It turned out to be the cause of horrendous breakouts. This foundation obviously is much cheaper than my regular one and is heavily fragranced. A lot of high street foundations break my skin out, my skin is very sensitive. If you have acne prone or sensitive skin I wouldn't recommend this foundation, however if you don't have a problem with foundations breaking you out then I'd still recommend it. It's not right for me and I won't be repurchasing, but it's still a nice foundation.

What's new with you? No.2

I haven't had my hair cut off or anything it's just tucked over my shoulders. I'm going for a cut and colour in a week or two and I'm stuck on what to do. I fancy a bit of a change but don't want to go bright blonde or red. I'm thinking maybe golden honey brown, à la Mille Mackintosh, what do you all think? 

I'm going to Paris for a few days at the end of May. It seems to be the 'blogger thing to-do' as of late and I have inadvertently jumped on that bandwagon. I've only been to Paris once when I was a kid and I don't remember it so I'm really excited. I'm also going to DisneyLand Paris.. YAY! Any must see's in Paris?

I love this baking book. I made this chocolate cake for my friends last day at work. I love baking for other people... all the fun, less of the calories.

My new favourite skincare product ever! I 'discovered' it through A Model Recommends, who I'm sure you all know. Anyway, it may be a tiny bit pricey but I really do love it. Full Review will be up in a couple of weeks one I've tested it more thoroughly.

Oman V Australia, and Swiss week @ the Hyatt

Three things today!

Oman are playing Australia next month at the Sultan Qaboos stadium - June 8th. Tickets are reportedly on sale now at the Shell gas station in Sarooj, starting at just 2 RO. General seating: 2 RO and VIP: 10, 15, 25 & 35 RO.

I imagine the game will be well-attended. The last time Oman and the Socceroos met, Oman snuck a goal in and won 1-0, so I'm sure the aussies will be keen to get even this time. The game is a qualifier for the World Cup in Brazil

On Sunday I went with Mrs Sythe to check out the Swiss week thing being held at the Mokha Cafe in the Hyatt all week until this Sunday (May 13th). It costs RO 17 and you get to try out a whole host of Swiss dishes. I honestly thought there was only holy cheese and toblerones, but I was surprised to see there were a bunch of other things on the menu too, but I do have to say the Tobelerone chocolate fountain and mousses were pretty awesome.

I enjoyed the Tobelerone chocolate fountain a great deal!

There was some live music and entertainment at the venue as well, with all manner of musical instruments: Alphorns, accordions, spoons, saws(!), cow bells and earthenware bowls with coins rolling around in them. All in all we had a great time and if you're looking for something different to do for dinner (or brunch on the weekend for that matter) - it was fun.

Finally, a nice spot by local twitter person, @terencephoto spied a new marketing initiative by Nawras, which apparently promotes online piracy:

Well I guess Oman better watch out or it will join Canada (those naughty Canadians) and make it onto the USA's online-naughty list that they publish every year: The Special 301 Watchlist prepared by the Office of the US Trade Representative. I'd like to point out that my Omantel ADSL is RO 35 a month for a 12MB line (which lets me download at around 1400 KB/sec) and is unlimited in data traffic. Just saying.

Holy Grail Product: Chanel Illuminating Fluid

I cringe at the thought of how I used to apply my makeup. I'd pile on the heavy revlon colourstay foundation, slab on the full coverage concealer and top it off with a liberal application of pressed powder.


As my skin had improved and as my taste has become somewhat more sophisticated, the way I do my makeup has also changed. I now opt for a lighter, dewier base. Yes, even though I have combination skin, I like a bit of a glow. My foundation of choice is the Chanel Vita Lumiere Aqua. This brings me on to profess my love of liquid highlighters. Anything to make my face look bright and fresh, essential for those who don't sleep well like me.


Back in December '11 my mother bought me a couple of Chanel makeup items for Christmas. I has asked for the Soleil tan do Chanel Gel Bronzer, and what I actually received was the Soleil tan de Chanel Sheer Illuminating Fluid in Sunkissed. I have never been so happy to get the wrong thing in my life. I love this product, I've literally used it every single makeup wearing day since Christmas. I still have about half left, so my guess is, it lasts about 8 months with regular use.


It gives the perfect glowy bronze sheen to the skin and I can't wait for this to become a summer staple in my makeup bag. It's light, non-greasy and lasts for a good 10 hours. It has a slight tint to it but nothing too strong, and the finish is a soft sheen and not too glittery. GLITTER IS FOR CHRISTMAS CARDS, I HATE GLITTER ON MY SKIN!


I love everything about this product. Yes it's Chanel so it's pricy but it lasts such a long time, it actually works out very reasonably priced. Obviously I didn't buy this myself but I will be repurchasing the moment it gets low. You get 30ml in a jar and it retails for around £30. Which works out at £1 per ml compared to £1.42 per ml for Benefit High Beam.

Omani artist Alia Al Farsi shows work in Japan

 

Local Omani artist Alia Al Farsi is unveiling (well probably has by now) her latest collection at the Embassy of Oman in Tokyo, Japan today. It's even being attended by HH Princess Takamado so it's a pretty big deal for Alia, and some good positive press for Oman too by extension.

Alia has been a recognized artist for quite a few years now and this is the latest in her long line of exhibitions - her website details that she's been to more than a few Oman Week exhibitions around the world to showcase her work - good for her.

I've no idea if her works are for sale, but I'd imagine so?

Omani product spotlight: Dahabi bread

Time for another semi-regular post on local Omani products that I use. This one's a fairly new product that I've seen when grocery shopping. I've not seen it for sale in Al Fair or Carrefour yet, but I buy it at Lulu's or The Sultan Center.

Makes excellent toast and eggy bread!

It is Dahabi bread. Mrs Sythe has been buying their flour products for years, so we recognized the brand and figured we'd give it a go and were pleasantly surprised. The bread comes in plastic bags as you can see, with handy easy-clips to keep the bag sealed. The loaves come in 3 different sizes, we buy the middle size, 450g - it seems to work best for us.

The bread is produced by the Atyab Bakery which is in Barka. They have a website here.

Now I'm sure a few of you are wondering about Al Fair's bread, and yes, I like their bread too - but I'm not always at Al Fair, nor always want to pay 700bz for a loaf of bread when all I want is toast. I find this Dahabi bread works well for me :)
