OOTD: I'm just too hot...

...to wear makeup. I didn't want to put foundation on today as I'm boiling, which resulted in very few OOTD pictures for you as I didn't feel like showing much of my face. Also sorry for the bra showing, I can't think of an excuse for that.

Shorts: Primark
Vest: New Look
Necklace: New Look
Waistcoat: New Look

The back of the waistcoat is my favourite part of the outfit... so pretty and girly, not something I would usually go for. And as you can see I went for the usually messy updo.

Have a good week,

48 hours in the clink for speeding, Omani bagpipes and dead bodies.

I was reading the Muscat Daily yesterday and was rather interested in an article on Page 3 i think it was. Here is the link to the online version of the story. In the story, a Major Zaid al Hosni announced that drivers caught violating speed limits monitored by radar face 48 hours in prison and a penalty of RO 50.

The article then goes on to state that between January and May 2011, 799,975 tickets had been issued to speeding motorists (an average of 159,995 a month). Assuming that each fine is RO 10 (and some are not, they range between 10 and 50) that is RO 8,000,000 in speeding fines revenue (a little factoid the Daily didnt publish!). The article goes on to state that in 2009 the total number of fines issued was 1,778,614 (an average of 148,218 a month) and that speeding fines are up. Well, given that the ROP are now using the sneaky cameras on the 18th Nov Street and Muscat Expressway, and that there are generally more people driving now than in 2009 (increase in driving age population), and that a new Fast and the Furious movie came out, I think that the increase in fines given is actually less per 1000 drivers than it was in 2009. I might be wrong, I can't be bothered to figure it out.

Now it's confusing, because the article does not indicate whether all speeding offenders will do a tour of the Bowsher police station, or only those going really fast. Anyway, you might want to check this handy ROP website before going in to renew your Mulkia - it's an online speeding fine check (and payment) thing. If anyone can clarify the situation, please do share with the rest of us.

Next up, also on the news. Today's Muscat Daily had a rather macabre picture of a dead guy that had hung himself on a construction site in Wadi Kabir. Really? Do we need to see the guy's dead body hanging like that? Next up, we could have an enterprising marketing company placing adverts on the dead guy. I wont publish the picture here because I think it was poor taste from the journo. But thats just me. Poor guy, I hope it was quick.

And finally, "traditional" Omani bagpipes. Confused? Because I certainly am! I am, unfortunately, a degenerate Pinkberry addict, and so last night I decided to go and get some overpriced yoghurt. And on my pilgrimage walk to Pinkberry, I came across a dude playing the bagpipes in full traditional Omani dress, along with a bunch of other guys banging on drums and some ladies dancing with more guys too. I thought it was pretty cool, but was a little confused about the guy playing what seemed to me like Scottish tunes on a bagpipe. I did manage to snap one picture below:

But my question is.... are bagpipes something of a tradition here in Oman? How on earth did they get here, and when?!

My Brazilian Wax Experience

Source Apologies for the lack of pictures but lets face it, I wasn't going to take before & after pictures of my va-jay-jay to post on my blog :)

Preparation:
For me, this is the worst bit. YES you do have to grow your hair back. You need about 1/4 inch of hair, minimum for waxing. I let it grow for around a month, but usually 3 weeks will be more than enough.

Price:
I paid £22 for the Brazilian and £28 for a full leg wax. When you add that up its pretty expensive to pay every month or so. If you live near London I'm sure you will pay a lot more. If I were  to continue waxing I think I'd skip the legs to cut the cost.

Pain Level:
I would describe the pain as uncomfortable but bearable. It does hurt but its not so bad that you run away crying :)I've also been told the pain subsides the more you get it done, a bit like plucking your eyebrows I guess.

Process:
The whole process took around 50 minutes and the girl who did my wax made me feel really comfortable so I didn't find it awkward or embarrassed. The leg wax was standard, she started at the front, worked her way up, then finished the wax with a soothing oil. The Brazilian was a little more complicated. You get to wear some snazzy disposable knickers (sexy) and you have to bend your leg in lots of weird positions (not difficult ones) in order to tense your skin. Its undignified but it helps to reduce the pain. If you didn't already know, a Brazilian is where you wax everything off apart from a little 'landing strip' and bare in mind, some bits hurt more than others... the tweezing to finish was the worst!

Results:
I'm so happy with the results of the Brazilian. At the time it bled the tiniest amount and looked a little red, but that goes away after about 12-24 hours. You also can't have hot baths or apply any products for 24 hours. After the leg wax there are still a few missed hairs, which is disappointing but they weren't long enough to be waxed off. I guess thats the only downside for me. I've been told the wax should last around 4-6 weeks but with some leg hair missed I'm sure they won't last that long.

Hope someone found this post useful,

Much Love,

Watering holes

Well I hope you all had a nice long weekend, I know I did. I'm still stuffed from all the Turkey and cake. I see a Turkey ruby murray in my near future.

Today's post is all about the new poll here on MM. It's about bars. I had to draw the line somewhere, and so I've done the following:

1. They are all Muscat based bars
2. They are all publicly accessible (eg not PDO, Civil Aviation, OHI Club, Royal Flight, golf clubs)
3. I've not included bars in predominantly restaurants (eg: Blue Marlin, O Solé Mio, Up Town, The Pub/Tokyo Taro, Pavo Real etc)

Now I know there are the Wadi Kabir bars, but I dont even know what they're called so I didn't add them in. Same with the Majan hotel bars. If you think I missed a worthy bar out, please let me know and I'll add it to the list for next time (as soon as someone votes on the Poll I can't edit it).

Vote for all that you like, we shall see if there is a clear winner!
