Sonia Gandhi proper joined Congress in 1997, before she refused to join and stayed away from politics in 1991, when her husband's assassination in 1998 she was elected as leader of Congress and take over completely as president of Indian National Congress and she served her services as chairperson of the United Progressive Alliance in the Election 2004. Sonia is the first person of the Congress party who served Longest serving president in 125 years of history also she is fifth foreign born person who is leading the Congress party since Independence in 1947.
